On this beautiful blue March morning, where spring is very much in the air it may be that you want to forget all about winter. However it is still officially winter and some people aren’t blessed with the sun-drenched locale I am currently residing in. That means, yes you’ve guessed it, snow based ‘news’ stories.
The so called Snowpocalypse has largely melted away, but the need to write about the white stuff most definitely has not. This particular story is from America (where else?). There has been a long tradition of snow men. They are an accepted part of the landscape for the colder months of the year, and are considered so innocent and innocuous that even small children are encouraged to make them.
Gender equality has made great strides in recent years, but it seems that in some fields that is less so. The world of snowpeople is one of those areas. For while snowmen are acceptable, snowwomen are not, at least not without clothing.
The Gonzalez family of Rahway New Jersey found out the hard way about modern American societies attitudes towards snow people. Having spent many hours carefully constructing a replica of the famous ‘Venus De Milo’ a wholesome and creative family activity took an unexpected turn when they were confronted by an armed police response.
The forces of law and order were acting to restore decency to the suburban neighbourhood following complaints. The situation was resolved without violence or arrests however when a compromise was reached. Fearing the wrath of law enforcement officials the Gonzales family agreed to cloth the sculpture in a bikini top and a sarong. If snowwomen are to break out into a snowman’s world and still feel sexy perhaps someone should design them some snow lingerie.
