So the Oscars happened last night, and as some had predicted tense Iraq bomb disposal movie The Hurt Locker snapped the Gong for best picture. It was also a winner in several other categories it was nominated in, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow. The Hurt Locker has been in the news for several reasons recently. Firstly because of the unique situation where by Bigelow and ex-husband James Cameron both had films nominated in many categories. Avatar, the most expensive film ever made, took the prizes for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects on the night.

Controversy has also dogged The Hurt Locker in recent weeks. There were accusations of inaccuracy from veterans of the Iraq war. Sensationally these were followed by the announcement of a lawsuit being filed by one ex-soldier who claimed that the main character was based on him and seeking compensation!
