The once proud nation of Australia was brought low today by a shocking revalation. The federal court in Sidney has ruled that Australia’s national anthem was in fact copied from a 1920s Girl Guide’s song. The song, Land Down Under by Aussie band Men At Work was chosen as the new national anthem of Australia in 1992. It replaced Tie My Kangaroo Down Sport which was judged to promote unnatural relationships with indiginous wildlife.

The disputed component of the song was its distinctive flute riff. The lyrics, however, with their patriotic themes and references to Vegemite sandwiches have not been tainted by the scandal. Rather than abandon the anthem that has caused millions to book flights to Australia the words may be added to a different tune.
